Have you seen what they’ve done to our Race Track?!!!…
Right, so first things first – it’s not as bad as it looks! Coppice work has been carried out on our race track area as planned throughout the Winter. It looks dramatic, and it’s obviously given us a bit of extra work ahead of out traditional April kick-off for both our coaching, and our Race Series and we’re going to need a hand (maybe a few pairs of hands)!
The good news is that we’re planning a two-stage return to racing this year – in the short term we’re going to focus on building/rebuilding our courses for the Under 8/10/12s (our “Little Oaks” race track), and our Juvenile, and Youth categories (which will take place on our new “Fir Tree Track”). The second stage of our return to racing will focus on our Junior/Senior/Masters racers, but will also feature, for the first time, a women’s only race – more details to follow about how to get involved with stage two!…
For now, we’ve got plenty of Spring Cleaning to get working on and we need your help with this on
the 11th of April – if you can spare a couple of hours, we’re running the first of our Trail Builds, on the existing trails which make up our Little Oaks track, and our new/redesigned Fir Tree Track. From 10AM on the 11th please join our Adult/Advanced Junior Group and help us by investing a couple of hours in giving our trails the attention they deserve. Watch out for a dedicated Trail Build Post withall the details about what to expect, how to join, what to wear, etc.
And after that on the 25th of April we’ll be running An Introduction to Racing Morning, where we’ll be covering all aspects of Racing, including a mock-up of our U8/10/12s, Juvenile, and Youth races for our club members (potential club members, and riders from other clubs are welcome to join us). We’re looking for volunteers and helpers to join our team with heaps of positions available covering marshalling, course design, timing, scoring, first aiders, course building and publicity. This is a MUST for anyone interested in racing later on in the year – again, watch out for a dedicated Intro to Racing Post with all the details, but put it in your diaries now, especially if you’ve got youngsters who are interested in racing.
Our coaching sessions in the training area start on the 4th of April – contact us now if you’d like to come along and see what it’s all about!
