Wanda's trail
After a winter of cold and wet trail building on
Saturday once a month, We are glad to say that Wanda's trail is now open
for business. This
section is designed to be a bit more challenging than some of the other
sections at Bedgebury, with a small technical drop, a couple of jumps
and a few berms. We hope visiting riders enjoy this new section and appreciate
the volunteer work done by Club members.
We plan to improve or add some more sections over
the coming months and
any extra volunteers would be much appreciated.
The Forestry Commission will also be doing some repair and improvement
work over the
next month or so with the club's input.

How it all started...
Bedgebury's 15km of singletrack offers a variety of challenges
for all abilities, why not come and try it for
yourself?
" The history of the Singletrack is that the trails had to be built very
quickly as there was only a short time between the funding being available and
the trail having to be completed before the end of the financial year. This meant
that the trail was built by getting a civil engineer in to put dots on the trees
where the trail should go, and a digger driver playing 'join the dots'.
We now have the chance to evolve the trail into what we wanted it to
be in the first place and the Club has appointed it's first Singletrack
Officer in Simon Auger.
The aim is to build a new red route with berms, jumps, drops, rocks
etc which will allow some pressure to be taken off the existing singletrack
and significantly add to the grin factor of coming to Bedgebury.
The existing singletrack will be modified to help it flow better which
should reduce wear and tear further as faster riders won't be locking
up going into corners and overshooting the exits. There will also be
some boardwalk over some of the really boggy bits.
However, don't expect this to happen overnight. We now have the IMBA
and Ian Warby (of Aston Hill fame) on board, but we will need plenty
of volunteers to help make it happen. We need to take our time and get
it right, not just rush in and build something which doesn't work and
is washed away in the first winter.
A lot has happened in the first year of use and the Singletrack is showing
the strain but positive steps are being taken to provide the best ride
possible and, from there, to take things on to the next level."
You're unlikely to get lost at Bedgebury but if you like to keep
track of where you are, here's a TrackLogs
GPS file*
of the whole singletrack or, if you'd prefer, view
it in Google Earth.

software to view this file
