Update 25th May 2008
Re-booking of the Last Go-Ride Beginners Course Session
Due to poor weather, the 2nd Go-Ride session was cancelled and took place yesterday, with glourious sunshine and fine, dusty
trails - excellent riding conditions!
The re-scheduled final Go-Ride Beginners session will take place next Saturday, 31st May at the usual times etc. Here's
hoping for another fine day.
Update 19th May 2008
Quench Cycles is on the move .......
Regular visitors to the Visitors centre will have noticed the new building going up in the car park......
The building will be the new site for Quench Cycles and will be open for business from 24th May. This does mean that
Quench Cycles will NOT be open on the 22nd and 23rd May, while stock is being relocated etc.
Whilst it may be inconvenient for the 2 days closure, the new premises will bring so many more advantages to Quench Cycles
customers.
Update 12th May 2008
Singletrack - Essential Maintenance Work
As mentioned in previous news updates, essential maintenance works are starting tomorrow (13th May) and will take the next
4 weeks to complete.
This work will take place over various sections of the trail.
Please observe all safety signage and follow all trail diversions.
The Forestry Commission apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
We (the club) also wish to add our thanks for your consideration during these essential works and hope they do not detract
from your enjoyment of the facilities. Remember to come back when the work is complete, then let us know what you think.
Thank you.
Update 7th May 2008
The 1st Go-ride MTB race for 2008
Bedgeburys Forest first 2008 race in the Go-MTB series got off to a good start in fine weather.
The short course is away from the public single track and family trails so full on racing is possible. Philip Lenney and
Graham Charman were never far apart and swapped lead several times but Lenney managed the final turn towards the finish line
more quickly and just got the win!

More riders are expected for the next race in the series, so come along and join the fun.

Update May 1st 2008
The regular night-rides are CHANGING.
With effect from June, the night rides will change to a Wednesday evening, with the first ride taking place on the 4th June.
With the lighter evenings, lights will not be a requirement - though we suggest you check sunset times and weather forecast
(cloud cover) and decide for yourself.
We have seen a number of new faces out on the night-rides, enabling the group to split into different abilities. The
rides take a mixture of forest trails, sections of singletrack and some other natural forest trails - as the evenings continue
to be lighter, we can even be talked into visiting the Freeride and North Shore areas!!
Non-members are also welcome to join us, so don't feel you can't attend - if you're visiting this area on work or holiday,
don't forget to bring your bike with you!
Further Update 30 April 2008
Trail Repair Update
Following on from previous updates, the club and the Forestry Commission have agreed a schedule of maintenance work for the
singletrack. Building techniques used in other Forestry Commission sites will be used to ensure the track is more resiliant
to the conditions found in Bedgebury Forest.
Maintenance and re-building will be undertaken on over 1,000 metres of trail and will commence in Mid-May and take a number
of weeks to complete. During this time, you may find some sections closed and whilst an inconvenience, please be assured
closures will only be made where your safety would otherwise be compromised.
Updates will be provided as the work progresses, the most important of which will be tell you the work has been completed
and to invite your feedback ...... so watch this space!
Update 30th April.
Dusk 'til Dawn Update
It is with regret that the Dusk 'til Dawn event scheduled for the 24th and 25th of May has been cancelled. The club race
series is not effected and we look forward to seeing many riders attending (starts this coming Saturday @ 11am).
Club News Updated 15th April 2008
Trail Repair Updates
It's been quite a long hard winter and I'm sure everyone will agree that some of the trails, especially towards the top end
of the forest, have taken a bit of a battering and are looking a little the worse for wear...
There are currently plans in place to carry out the necessary works to fix all this but the club has requested that these
be carried out in a manner best suited to not only fixing the trails, but ensuring this is done in such a way as to enhance
and protect the longevity of what we have, always with its main usage in mind.
To that end we are actively seeking quotes and plans for the works and hope that any delay that might occur in bringing
this to all will be offset by repairs of the highest standard, further enforcing the development of Bedgebury as a centre
for cycling.
The Light Night Night Ride
Okay, so the long drawn out winter nights are behind us and the long summer evenings stretch ahead of us... and the scheduled
Night Rides seem in need of a bit of a change.
They're not going to stop taking place, they'll just not involve so much of the dark-nighty-ness they have in the winter.
If anything this might be as good an excuse for more of you to come along and join in a ride as you'll ever need.
We are currently looking at possibly changing the night of the week we have the ride and a few of the wee bits that go
along with it but keep checking out the Events page for regular info and consider yourself most welcome to come along and
take part.
Going Up!
Now, you might have noticed that there's been a little bit of re-routing of the traffic within the visitor centre car parks
and a delivery of more wood to the area (as if you ever thought Bedgebury needed more wood).
Well, if you hadn't already guessed, work has been going on to get the new building for the cycle franchise up and running.
This new structure will provide more space for Quench to have more space for spares and repairs as well as allowing the cafe
in the existing building to expand eventually too.
It is hope that it will also serve to keep bikes away from the VC itself, eliminating a point of conflict with other forest
users. More info and pictures to follow...
Club News Updated 26th March 2008
All Systems Go-Ride!
With the club activities seemingly turning into a mountain-biking version
of "Ground Force", March 15th saw more building activity, this time to set up the Go-Ride training area.
A hard days work saw the area cleared and prepared, with a bunny hop, slalom section and limbo bar being
built, as well as a braking area, small jump and drop off being constructed. Trenches were dug ready for balance beams or
'skinnies' to be fitted and many crisps were eaten and coffees drunk during the day...
Most significantly of all, a special section of trail was constructed through part of the old Christmas
tree plantation on the edge of the training area, giving those doing the courses the chance to develop their singletrack technique
before progressing out into the forest.
We have to give the Forestry Commission a big pat on the back for their support in identfying
this area for us to develop and for giving us the tools and knowledge to help us accomplish our goals, with special thanks
to Terry Jennings for his support and hard work on the day (if he's forgiven us for filling his truck cab
with soil, that is!).
It may not be unique in the country but few clubs have access to such a dedicated training area so please
support this effort and go to the Go-Ride pages and see if there is a course that you or a family member may wish to participate in.

Caution! Boars At Work
If you've been out in the woods in the last couple of weeks you might have
noticed, or even stopped to chat with, members of the bike club busy building stuff or mapping, photographing and repairing
parts of the trails. Why the sudden activity?

Congratulations!
The club now has 3 fully qualified 'Go Ride' coaches, which means that for a club our size, we have access
to more coaches per head than most other clubs in the country... so it's up to you to use them when the chance comes your
way.
More dates for 'Go Ride' courses will be announced soon but, in the meantime, well done to Gary, Carl &
Tim for their success!

Club News Updated 8 January 2008
Happy New Year!
Well, here we are, 2008 already. And that means that the nights
will be getting longer, the weather will, hopefully, start to improve and a new year of riding can begin. There's an
awful lot in the pipeline for this year and we'll bring you the information as soon as we can (and when we're allowed-
some of it is still very secret squirrel at the moment).
The BFCC Committee elfs are planning ahead and looking at this years race series, improvements to the
trails (repairs, changes and additions), shiny new stuff and even talk of strange going ons in the woods at night! Interested?
You should be.
Well, as usual, we really need your assistance and we'll be looking throughout 2008 for input and help with
a number of projects and events so please, give the time you can and join in...
It only remains to wish you all the very best for the
coming year. Happy trails!

Calling all David Baileys...
In the midst of the ongoing updating of the website,
it's been noticed that there's a shortage of photographs for the galleries.
Thinking that you probably don't want to keep looking at the same old faces time and again
we're putting out a request for you to send in anything you might want to share, taken in Bedgebury at the Freeride area,
Singletrack or the family trail- in fact, anything with a Bedgebury cycling theme.
And if you have pictures of you wearing your club shirts anywhere different then please feel
free to submit them as it'd be great to see where else you show your colors.
If you want to send them in for inclusion please do
so via webmaster@boarsonbikes.co.uk and if you can add a wee bit of info about who's in it, when it was taken and the like, that'd be great.
Happy snapping!
Update- thanks for those who have already sent in pictures...
they'll appear in the gallery soon! Keep them coming.
Club News Updated 15th November 2007
Angley School Sports College Visit
On 20th October, Bedgebury Forest Club coaches Tim Bisley, Carl Abrams & Gary Scott spent
a Saturday morning promoting the club and cycling to young sports enthusiasts.
Gary designed a course made up of four different obstacles to show and develop riding techniques:
- negotiating a Slalom course
- riding along a narrow plank of wood
- an off-camber hill slalom
- and finally the technically challenging 'Bunny-hop' to clear before a sprint to the finish
line.
26 riders participated on the day and the BFCC chaps took them in small groups and
coached them through the four individual skills areas, ensuring that they could all successfully negotiate that part of the
course. When all sections had been expalined and done proficiently, each rider was given the opportunity to complete a timed
lap of the whole course with the best time of the day receiving a free Junior membership to the Club.
Gary (BFCC Coach Coordinator) was please to announce that George McRae from Cranbrook produced the winning time of 36.1 seconds - well done George!
The Club is hoping to develop more school partnerships in future as part of our ongoing role
to encourage and promote cycling.
Club News Updated 28th October 2007
Dalby Trip Update
Well, we all got back... some of us in a few more pieces than when we set off!
The whole four day trip was great fun and provided a good chance to see how a different Forestry
site (and boy, is it different) dealt with the needs of it's riders...
First off, the actual topography of the area meant a lot more in the way of climbs and descents
meaning lots of hairpins, berms and quite a number of little drop offs and jumps/rolls. The ground itself was very stoney
just under the surface and certainly had it's effect on those of us riding hardtails but was nonetheless a decent, if tiring,
challenge.
Weather conditions varied and the wetter bits meant a few offs for a number of the riders-
the only really bad injury being your friendly webmaster taking a high-sider and breaking a collarbone and two ribs on
the last morning during the best of the weather (I don't do anything by half)!
Although Bedgebury shares little of the gradient and length of course of Dalby (their half
circuit red route is 23km alone!) some of the ways the course runs and little touches that improve the flow of the routes
there can be easily added to the Bedgebury singletrack and so the Club will be looking at implementing some of these improvements
with the working parties over the coming months.
So, a good weekend, good company, good food and a lot of inspiration... and the odd bruise
and clicky noise in the bone department. Result!
