Beginners Course
Title: Trail Maintenance Course (Level 1)
Dates: TBC
Times: TBC (but approx 2 hours duration)
Prices: £30
Places: 6 per course
This course is aimed at the novice rider and ooks at basic bike set
up and trail maintenance so that riders can get home safely if they encounter a problem.
Course contents include:
- Pre-ride checks
- Bike set up (saddle, suspension, tyre pessures, brake levers, pedal types)
- V-brake set up/brake pad checks
- Essential trail maintenance kit
- How to get out of trouble (mend a puncture/replace tube etc)
- How to split a chain
- Basic gear indexing
- Post-ride cleaning and lubrication- How to wash/where to and not to hose
- Chain cleaning and degreasing
- Where to lube
- Bolts to check and tighten
Depending on available time, course members can work on their own bikes
afterwards under instruction and discuss their particular set up.
Bike and tools are supplied.
Intermediate Course
Title: Intermediate Maintenance Course (Level 2)
Dates: Monday 8th October & Tuesday 13th November
Times: 3-4 hours duration 18.00 hrs start
Prices: Club member- £35.00
Others- £45.00
Places: 6 per course
This is aimed at the more experienced rider who wants to be able to undertake fundamental
maintenance and assumes a basic knowledge as at Level 1.
Course contents include:
- Drive train maintenance- how to check chain wear
- Chain removal and replacement
- Gear and brake cable replacement and routing
- Types and lengths of bottom brackets
- Bottom bracket removal and replacement
- Cassette removal and replacement
- Front & rear mech removal and replacement
- Gear set up and indexing
Depending on available time, course members can work on their own bikes
afterwards under instruction and discuss their particular set up.

Advanced Course
Title: Advanced Maintenance Course (Level 3)
Dates: Monday 15th October & Tuesday 20th November
Times: 3-4 hours duration 18.00 hrs start
Prices: Club member- £35.00
Others- £55.00
Places: 4 per course
this course is aimed at the cyclist who is loking to carry out the vast majority of their
own maintenance and who has a full home workshop, as specialist tools are required to carry out some of the work described.
The course assumes that participants have the knowledge from Levels 1 & 2.
Course contents include:
- Types of headset
- Headset removal and replacement
- Wheel hub strip, clean and rebuild
- Free hub removal and replacement
- Wheel truing
- Spoke replacement
- Hydraulic brake bleeding and set up
Depending on available time, course members can work on their own bikes
afterwards under instruction and discuss their particular set up.
