All non-racers - your help is needed.

Postby Plant » Tue Jul 14, 2009 7:14 pm

Hi,

This Saturday 18 July is the last race event of this summers series and is expected to see a large number of racers.

Ray and Christine (and others) put a lot of time and effort into putting on these race events and they are well received and are now being well attended.

However, the last race event saw only a small number of non-racers who were willing to help out as marshalls and Ray is rightly concerned that this Saturdays event will be under-staffed unless we can drum up support from non-racers.

So if you can spare the time on Saturday, please report to Ray/Christine either at the registration van (by Quench) or at the start/finish line (on the right 3/4 way up the main fire road, before reaching the tower).

Your help will really be appreciated.

Thank you,

Carl.

I am "without car" this weekend however may have thought of a possible solution - what time would you need us there please?

If I can make it I will but don't count on me... Apologies in advance if I can't make it.

I will endeavour to be there depending on "stuff".

What time should I get there and what time does it finish?

Hi y'all,

I suggest being at the VC car-park (registration van) between 8.30 - 9.00.

Everything is normally wrapped up by around noon - or a little after.

Cheers,

Carl.

OK - slightly contrary view. I expect to get flamed in response.

Respect to all those who do help -and at one race I stood around and waved a flag a bit myself. But I don't really have any interest in racing and am happier doing my bit for the club by turning up and working hard at Trail Builds.

But the way the Trail Builds and Races are organised this year has meant there have been only a few club rides recently on Saturday mornings, and I think if we stop having a reliably scheduled regular ride that people can go on - especially new people - we risk damaging the growth of the club as something more than a cheap way of getting car-parking. Perhaps there is a way of spreading the races out next year a bit?

So good luck to all those who are out racing on Saturday - and well done to those who help marshal - but I will be (rain willing) chugging round on my bike at 8am, and perhaps again at 10 am if there is anyone who wants a ride and is not marshaling.

all the gear and absolutely no idea...

John I have a hard hat if you want to borrow it

I like helping the club out whether its marshaling, trail building or club rides, me thinks that we are perhaps spreading ourselves out a bit thin.

Like most clubs there is always a hardcore (Not porn) of volunteers who turn up rain or shine (missed last race and trail build sorry  ). If we have 200+ members surely we can get more to turn up.

The club rides are important as John has said and it would be nice if we could run two groups on a Saturday one for nutters and the other for less experienced and younger members, that will only happen if we can increase the number of club members to help lead and turn up for other duties.

There have said my bit and John duck

I'm hoping to be there on Saturday with a 9 year old daughter in tow so I look forward to seeing everyone and helping out.

We all want different things and help out where we can and as long as there are those willing to do so then things will be good for the club.

I know that i've faced comments before about how much my mouth moves (and not always in a pleasant way) but meeting Mark from Welwyn the other week it had a good and positive result for the club and for the site so I think we all rely on the strengths we have and use them to our best potential.

If you feel compelled to do something then you'll never give it your all and it might have an adverse effect in that you will be less inclined to give your time.

I can't do everything because of my lack of transport and commitment to kids but we all have situations like that and I love that we are all different and all have unique skills... long may it continue.

I really haven't made much of a point but the club will always need a ginger minority and a fat bloke at the back... sorted!
